Weekend Art Challenge Results – Musical Instruments

Welcome to our most recent weekend art challenge results. This challenge was an interesting one as it allowed our students to explore colour, composition and choose different media specifically suited to this theme. We gave them plenty of scope to create artwork around ‘musical instruments’.

Colour and music often go hand in hand and so it is wonderful to see the beautiful pieces of colourful artwork students created below. The black and white charcoal and pen and ink work students created also exude a vibrancy of sound within the instruments they drew. Everyone who took part really excelled themselves with their creativity this week.

We hope you enjoy viewing all the pieces and we would love to hear which your favourites are, please do comment below! Stay tuned for the next challenge coming soon. Another that you can be creative with!

I thought I’d give the music challenge a go this weekend. I drew the piano keys photo in pen and ink ( black) on spattered colored ink. I hope you like it. I enjoyed doing it.

Here’s an accordion for this week’s challenge, I’ve drawn the accordion in biro and added black watercolour. The bright watercolours around the accordion symbolise the music it makes, I’m trying to show the joy of music in the colours.

Thank you for another great Weekend Art Challenge! I had a lot of fun with the theme; I chose to paint a cello – and I think you can guess who’s playing it. 😉 He has had a bit of a makeover as well, I’ve been experimenting with using colour (gouache) instead of the black outlines.

This is a section of an old American folk fiddle, I liked the lovely reddish colour of the wood and the simple decorations that were added. I’ve used mixed media for this piece.

  1. If I HAD to choose one…it would be the pen and ink Saxophone. It’s oozing with talent. Though she could have added color to make it pop and give it the edge in this particular exercise.
