Weekend Art Challenge – Cardboard!

A big thank you to all of our students who participated in our Cardboard Art Challenge! We asked our students to explore the everyday material of cardboard that we happily disregard on a daily basis, transforming it into artwork.

Student Diane Davies has won the featured image spot this week with her skilful use of cardboard to portray her garden in a collage and painting combined! Excellent work Diane!

A special mention goes to Vera Jaouadi for her inspiring cardboard cutout picture too. The level of patience and dedication required to create this with the fine line cutouts is amazing! Well done Vera!

While the cardboard art challenge may have come to an end, we are thrilled to announce a brand new challenge awaits tomorrow. Best of luck to everyone who decides to take part!

I visited Jordan Fretz’s website and was very impressed by his amazing artwork. I let myself be inspired by his incredible technique and here is the result. If I had to do it again, I would make fewer small cuts (very complicated on corrugated cardboard) and I would try to take more advantage of the undulations of the cardboard in my drawing. I think I’ll have to do some more testing …..

These are ‘The Potpourri Eaters“. They are made of toilet paper rolls and a cardboard package for plant bulbs decorated with white gouache and red, blue, yellow, white and black acrylic paint plus fur, and topped with a load of potpourri leaves.

Weekend Challenge: Cardboard.

For this week’s challenge I’ve created a garden landscape using cardboard for the pergola, shed, compost area and bamboo. For the walls and pots I used an egg box and ink pen, then acrylic paints for the rest of the scene. It was fun!
