I enrolled on the Drawing and Painting Course to give me a focus during lockdown. Previously, I had experience of pencil and pen drawing, botanical work and watercolours. I found the different techniques and art materials in the course interesting. I also enjoyed working at my own pace. My tutor was Paul Weaver.
The early sections helped me get my head around perspective and ellipses. Each section of the course was written, so you felt as if your tutor was talking to you. Paul’s feedback was also timely. I enjoyed trying different painting exercises, including oils. However, this did confirm my love of watercolours, especially the unpredictability of watercolour paint.
The later sections were a challenge! I had never done any life drawing before, so this was my biggest challenge. Rising to the challenge I booked onto a series of life drawing classes at the Bath Artists Studio. I absolutely loved it!! The image of the model was drawn on my third workshop, to my surprise and delight. I am sure the work from the Drawing and Painting course helped me achieve such a great result.
Goals for the future will include continuing with life drawing and also painting in watercolours in a free, loose style.
