Student Jaqueline Ford completed the coloured pencil course with tutor Monika Cilmi and we have aded some of her beautiful pieces below along with text to explain a little about each one. Jaqueline very kindly wrote the following to Monika which we are all thrilled to read. We hope that Jaqueline continues to enjoy the medium of coloured pencil for her future pieces of artwork.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all your feedback and positive comments that I have received back from you throughout this course. It has been very much appreciated.
This head portrait is taken from a photo of a male lion at Edinburgh in 2013. This drawing took approximately 10-15 hours to do and is on A3 size Daler Rowney Aqaufine smooth watercolour paper (hot pressed). I have used Faber Castell Polychronos colour pencils throughout. I enjoyed working on this as going forward I am aiming to do the Pet Portrait Diploma course after this one and therefore I was able to do this one as a practice piece.
This drawing of a rhino was taken from a photo taken back in the summer of 2012 at Cotswold Wildlife Park in Burford. Took approximately 10-15 hours to do and is on A3 size Daler Rowney Aqaufine smooth watercolour paper (hot pressed). I have used Faber Castell Polychronos colour pencils throughout. I found this to be more challenging than the portrait of the lion, I have tried to capture the skin tones using different greys but also using some green as well.
This Bird of Paradise flower is taken from a photo on a recent week away in Mallorca, I spotted in a pot outside a town house in the old town of Alcudia. This drawing took approximately 10-15 hours to do and is on A3 size Daler Rowney Aqaufine smooth watercolour paper (hot pressed). I have used Faber Castell Polychronos colour pencils throughout. I enjoyed drawing this as I love the colours that are in the Bird of Paradise flower. I have tried to blend colours and also building up of layers.
This drawing is from a photo of a Venice backwater taken on a weekend break back in 2013. It took approximately 3 weeks (2-3 hours per day) and is on A3 size Daler Rowney Aqaufine smooth watercolour paper (hot pressed). I have used Faber Castell Polychronos colour pencils throughout. I am not great when it comes to buildings/landscapes and found it very challenging especially with the amount of detail involved but have received positive comments from friends and other LAC students.
