We are thrilled to showcase the stunning botanical pencil and coloured pencil work by one of our students, Tao Barry, who is currently taking the Botanical Coloured Pencil Diploma Course.
Tao has submitted a beautiful selection of studies during the first half of her course, including delicately observed flowers, leaves and fruits. Her work captures the textures and subtle shading that make botanical art so rewarding and challenging. Tao’s coloured pencil flower studies in particular show her eye for detail and her growing confidence with coloured pencil.
Tao has a long standing love of painting flowers, starting with her first adult education class in 2007. Her tutor handed her a flower and told her to “draw and paint what you see,” and that was the beginning of her botanical journey. Since then, Tao has worked diligently to refine her skills. In 2012, she earned a diploma with a high pass after attending a Welsh Society of Botanical Artists summer school. Now, she’s joined us at the London Art College to continue building on her impressive foundation.
In her course notes, Tao explained some health challenges she faces which makes drawing difficult. Despite this, her perseverance, passion, and enthusiasm shine through every piece. She mentioned she hopes coloured pencils will give her greater control and we believe they absolutely have. Her delicate touch and control are evident throughout all of her work.
We are incredibly proud of Tao’s dedication and progress and we’re looking forward to seeing how her work continues to develop throughout the course.
If you’re inspired by Tao’s work and would like to learn more about botanical drawing and coloured pencil techniques, why not join our Botanical Coloured Pencil Diploma Course. It’s suitable for both beginners and those with experience and you can study at your own pace from home.
