Weekend Art Challenge Results – Cake!

This week’s Weekend Art Challenge has been all about cake! Our students have been busy drawing and painting all sorts of delicious treats, from amazing Battenburg cakes to delicate cupcakes and everything in between. The results have been absolutely mouth-watering!

It’s been wonderful to see such a variety of styles and mediums used, from vibrant coloured pencil to detailed pencil work. Each piece looks good enough to eat, and we’re so impressed with the creativity and attention to detail.

A huge well done to everyone who took part and a massive shoutout to the ‘gluten free banana bread’! Scroll down to find it! All of our students artwork is fantastic! Stay tuned for a new challenge tomorrow!

I chose this fruit tart as a good excuse to practice drawing fruit and mixing reds – all useful for my botanical art course!

For this weekend challenge I’ve drawn a Battenberg Cake. I’ve used hard pastels for the bulk of this drawing. I’ve used Gesso for a bright white background to show off the cake.

Here is my cake drawing. I used Ecoline brush pens. The shading is quite uneven and though I used two different pink pens for the rays and cake …the results were the same… but I thought I would give it a go anyway!

Raspberry and white chocolate muffin with watercolour based painting on WHSmith watercolour paper in sketchbook. I added white gouache, black ink wash and Posca white pen. I baked and painted still life for the 1st step. Subsequently took photo before I ate. Have fun!
