Nurgül Özkeser

We are thrilled to feature some beautiful artwork by one of our talented students, Nurgül Özkeser, on the blog today. Completed outside of her formal studies, Nurgül’s paintings of fruit and still life subjects showcase her amazing skills as a painter.

Drawing inspiration from the Old Masters, Nurgül has expertly captured the richness and depth of her subjects using beautifully dark, luscious tones and warm, harmonious colour palettes. Nurgül’s attention to detail and ability to create light and shade within her pieces adds to their realism.

Are you inspired by Nurgül’s stunning paintings? Here are a few pointers for students looking to try their hand at painting fruit and still life compositions:

Study Light and Shadow: Pay close attention to how light falls on objects and creates shadows. This adds depth and realism to your work. Nurgül’s paintings highlight the importance of using light to enhance the three-dimensional quality of her subjects.

Choose a Simple Composition: Start with just a few objects, like Nurgül has with a line of apples so you can focus on form and technique. Gradually introduce more elements as you grow more confident.

Experiment with Colour: Don’t be afraid to use rich, dark tones to create contrast. Nurgül’s work shows how deeper colours can evoke mood and bring out the vibrancy in lighter areas.

Take Your Time: Still life painting requires patience. Focus on details, textures, and the relationships between the objects in your composition. The more time you spend observing your subject, the more realistic and compelling your painting will be.

We hope Nurgül’s incredible work inspires you to pick up your brushes and explore still life painting!

    1. I really admire these highly successful oil painting works. The portrayal of sliced and whole oranges displayed on a wooden cutting board is stunning, evoking a tactile sensation thanks to the interplay of light and detailed brushstrokes. Observing the details of the cut slices reveals the juicy texture and fibers of the fruit with careful attention. The slightly blurred patterns in the background add a sense of motion to the painting. It’s truly beautiful.
