Weekend Art Challenge Results – Pen and Ink

Welcome to this weeks pen and ink art challenge and what a popular challenge it was! So many amazing pen and ink drawings. The subjects our students have chosen to portray are so diverse, we hope that they inspire our readers to pick up their pen and inks to have a go. Or.. perhaps purchase materials if new to the medium.

Pen and ink is not a very expensive outlay to set yourself up with. You don’t even need specialist paper to start with. Jacksons Art is a superb art shop that we would recommend purchasing art materials from and although based in the UK, do send their materials worldwide. Have a look at their article with links to various materials they recommend for pen and ink work. A really handy resource. Jacksons Art Pen and Ink Resource.

A new challenge will be online tomorrow, so keep checking back. It will be music to your ears… well it might!

I love using pen + ink and thoroughly enjoyed creating this piece of work. I just love the simplicity of back & white imagery.

Here’s a quick pen and ink sketch I’ve done of my dog, she was lying by me on the sofa, it’s the first time I’ve been able to do a whole sketch of her without her moving!!!
Just as I’d finished we had a delivery so she was off to the front door – but I had finished 🥳
I’ve added a little watercolour wash to show her colouring!

Here’s a follow on to my dog pen and ink sketch, it’s a sketch of my dogs toy box!!! It is made with purely pen and ink!!
She has too many toys, too many to fit into her toy box!!

Drawn with dippy ink pen (Nikko G nib) Rohrer & Klingner black drawing ink on Seawhite 225gsm . Original 135 x 140 . Trees at our local Millenium park, sketch last winter, drawn up in ink today. This took me away from my D & P course, but made for a useful – and very enjoyable – exercise for that course where I’ve got to drawing in ink.

Here’s a black ink drawing of a peregrine falcon. I also used some charcoal for the rock and watercolour pencils to add a bit of colour.
