Weekend Art Challenge Results – Ballet Dancers

Welcome to the results of our latest weekend art challenge. This week we set our students the challenge of creating artwork on the subject of Ballet Dancers. This challenge was quite an open topic with plenty of choice for creating artwork. Students could use any medium and work on any size of artwork, also any style too. We have realistic paintings, beautiful and delicate illustrations to lovely comical characters…. scroll down to check them all out!

We try to encourage our students to use our challenges as a way of experimenting. Not worrying about the outcome so much, but more about completing a piece of artwork in the allotted time on topic. Also whilst learning the medium, the support they are using, the technology if they are working digitally, and also perhaps working larger or smaller than they normally would. It’s always good to set something to take students out of their comfort zone. It can give them the experience and confidence to being able to tackle unusual subjects and artwork that they might need to in the future.

To all of the students who took part, well done to everyone. We hope you feel, as we do, that they have really captured the subject of ballet dancers. From creating stories within the artwork of the dancers to working with new mediums and experimenting during the process.

A new challenge will appear on the blog tomorrow.. keep checking back for more!

It is on procreate on iPad.

Here’s a slightly different take on ballet – it’s “swan lake” made using drawing pen, pastels, watercolour and acrylics!

Here the ballerina is practicing in a darkened studio and I’ve tried to show her feelings for her dance – the energy and the passion on the outside!!
It is painted using white pencil and watercolour.

I’ve had a go at another weekend challenge. Good fun and a great way to try to improve my figure drawing!

Thanks for another wonderful Art Challenge! Colin, whom I met in last weekend’s challenge, was still on my mind, so he had to take up ballet dancing. I don’t know about elegant, but he certainly looks like he’s having fun, don’t you think? 🙂

Ballet dancer, really wanted to do something loose and floaty, sadly just not my style. Found this a tricky subject but good practice!

After doing preliminary studies, I have admiration for those who chose dance. Between the busted up toes and graceful movements/energies, and finely detailed attire…there is something cosmic.
