Welcome to this weekend’s art challenge! In this challenge, we would love for you to explore drawing or painting your own hand… or someone else’s!
Spend some time observing your hand. Try to look at the structure, including bones, muscles, tendons, and skin texture. Understand how the hand moves and the way fingers bend and flex. Once you have done this, start sketching your hand to get a feel for how to describe the shapes and textures. Ideally use a fairly good light source as this will help you define the light and shadows on the hand and fingers. Then move onto the final piece, or perhaps you might like to produce a whole page of hand sketches. The choice is yours!
Best of luck and most of all have fun!
The idea of these challenges is to help students improve their skills by drawing, painting and creating regularly.
So try to submit work that you have created specifically for the challenge – or course work you are currently creating for your art course. Sometimes our challenge themes cross over with what students are learning. Our challenges are great practive for your coursework too!
Remember to submit your artwork to us via email if you would like it posted on our blog next week.
