The London Art College Graphic Design Diploma course is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue a successful career in graphic design. One student who has been working through our graphic design course is Leonie Schottler and we have added some of her stunning work below. Leonie explained a little about the Art Nouveau piece which you can see a snippet of in the featured image above, and in full at the bottom of this page.
I love Art Nouveau, so I decided to make a poster for an exhibition about that. I started with researching Art nouveau, what is typical about it, etc. I also looked at furniture and jewelry.
I used several art history books for research as well as the internet and did a few preparatory sketches and thumbnails to figure out which design worked best.
So my aim was to make Art Nouveau clearly recognizable (without limiting myself to one specific art work or artist) and without making just a stereotypical image.
I decided to create my own “art nouveau” typography. At first, I wanted to write the whole text in it but to improve legibility, I only wrote “Art Nouveau” in it and used another typeface for the information
