I enrolled on the London Art College Drawing and Painting Diploma two years ago, and I am so glad I did. Right from the start, my tutor, Paul Weaver, was very supportive and encouraging, giving me confidence as I worked my way through each unit. I found the course both enjoyable and challenging, and being able to listen to Paul’s feedback for each unit as often as I liked was very useful as it was so constructive and encouraging. The unit on perspective was a little challenging for me but Paul explained clearly what I needed to do and with a bit of practice, I got there!
Using a variety of mediums was great fun, I especially enjoyed painting with oils, and used water mixable oils from Windsor and Newton. I was surprised just how quickly I began to learn the names of the various colours. Being aware now, of the things to consider before jumping straight in with a paint brush, will make my creative time that much more rewarding and I enjoy the whole process of planning.
I found that ‘just having a go’ was the best thing to do when feeling unsure, very often I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Sometimes having another go was equally surprising and well worth the effort.
I was really pleased to receive my certificate, and even more so when Paul told me that I had been awarded a distinction, and felt such a sense of achievement. I recommend this course to anyone who wanted to learn by doing rather than by copying, and in your own time, I think you can learn so much more that way.
