I’ve recently finished the Drawing and Painting Course which I really enjoyed, experimenting with new materials and learning loads of new skills.
As a child I loved to draw and paint, often getting in trouble for drawing on things I wasn’t supposed to and being told off at primary school for using all the paper. I did GCSE Art and then A levels at a local college. The first year was ok but in the second year we had a different teacher who often forgot to turn up to lessons. When he did turn up he didn’t teach much and was sometimes drunk. Sometimes we were even without a classroom.
This experience put me off art education for years but it didn’t stop my love of art and I studied history of art at university. I later worked at a large municipal art gallery in visitor services for 16 years. Work and children meant I didn’t do much art and only I restarted when my younger daughter went to secondary school as I found I had more time. I saw an advert for London Art college in an art magazine but didn’t really put much thought into it until I got made redundant at the end of lock down and found myself with even more free time. I thought I might as well have a go and see if my poor efforts could be improved with a bit of direction.
The course has been challenging but great fun. I’d recommend it to anyone. Hopefully my work has got better (I like to think to think so!). I’d like to thank everyone at London Art College, particularly the tutor Paul. His feedback and guidance been brilliant. It really feel likes he wants you to succeed. I don’t have any real plans at the moment except to carry on painting and try to decide which course to do next!
