As a youngster I loved art, but training to be a Doctor and having a family always got in the way!
After retiring I started drawing watercolour birthday cards for friends and family but needed advice and direction. I started with the London Art Colleges ‘Introduction to Drawing’ course and enjoyed it so much that after completion I went straight into the Drawing and Painting Diploma.
The change in lifestyle due to the pandemic offered the perfect opportunity to really concentrate on learning the basics.
I found the Diploma very wide ranging , and quite challenging at times because you dip a toe into many different subjects and media. But it took me to areas areas I would never have gone. For example I discovered to my surprise that I loved acrylics and painting nudes as I love drawing curves and shading.
The feedback from my Tutor -Paul- was the key to my progress. It was prompt , supportive, extensive and detailed. Knowing that I was going to hand my work in to be scrutinised was a real incentive for me to do my best.
I have put all my drawings onto Instagram ( @clare4art) which serves as a reminder of my journey and the progress I have made. This was useful on the days when nothing was going right and I felt I was going backwards – which I am sure happens to everyone.
Now I miss being on the course and wonder which one to do next!
