Wendy Harknet has submitted two wonderful paintings for her Botanical Coloured Pencil Course and we have added them below along with the text that goes along side. It explains how Wendy went about creating the artwork for her Hellebore and the onions. We hope that our students find it inspiring and helpful!

I think this work is phenomenal, such care, skill and observation.
How long did each piece take?
What advice would you have for someone who is a relative beginner and aims to emulate your standard of work Wendy?
Hi Alwyn,
I am replying on behalf of Wendy as she isn’t notified of your comment, we add artwork on students behalf to inspire. Our advice would be keep practicing everyday, drawing from life when you can as well as from photos, as drawing from life will help you improve your observational skills. Also try to draw a variety of things, not just flowers. Keep a sketchbook and draw things that you find inspiring around your home. Set up light sources to help give deeper shadows and brighter light on the objects. Don’t be afraid to use dark tones to help describe the textures. We hope that helps you Alwyn! Keep up the great work!
