The following post is by Geoff Goodall studying on the Coloured Pencil Online Art Course.
—————————————
I have in the past primarily used watercolour as my preferred medium. I have painted many things (over the last eleven years or so) to include birds, animals, flowers, still life etc. I would describe myself as someone who likes to show great detail in my work and am self taught.
I paint purely for pleasure and having heard so much about coloured pencils and graphite pencils, I thought I would give them a go.
I suppose my aim for the course is to improve in the coloured/graphite pencil medium and expand my general art skills. Looking ahead, given someone who likes detail, I would like to embark on either the pet portraiture or portraiture course next.
In the back of my mind I would like to be able to receive commissions in my future art work if, of course, I reach an acceptable standard.
Each piece of work has been prepared on Winsor & Newton Bristol Board – Extra Smooth Surface – 250 gsm (A3 – 42 x 30cms). I really do like this paper because even though it is very smooth it takes a lot of coloured pencil layers.
I used Derwent Coloursoft, Faber Castell polychromos, Prismacolor Verithin and Caran D’ache pencils for all the works and I must say I do like using all of them.
