This student has very cleverly added her work in progress along with her final portrait so that her tutor could view each stage of the process and how she created the image. You can see that the student went on a journey during the painting looking, drawing, changing, observing at each stage. I think each image in itself can almost be classed as a finished piece. The sepia undertones especially remind me of old old master preparatory studies. I hope this inspires you to take photos at each stage, so that you are aware of how you are building up your painting and are able to look back and learn from what you are creating.
