There are some wonderful pieces of artwork being produced by our students at the moment. I have collected a folder full of images I would like to post here and this one has to be at the top of my list. It has been produced by a student currently studying on the sci-fi and fantasy correspondance course and he has been experimenting and creating some of his artwork in digital form. Joseph Byrne has very kindly written about his piece below and we hope to see more of his digital work soon.
This piece was done in a about two weeks using Photoshop 7 with a graphics tablet. The picture offered me good practice in learning to illustrate different textures, such as water, rock and clouds and It also was a learning experience in terms of how much detailing and using a limited colour palette. I feel I still have a long way to go, but the course is helping me streamline my process and practise skills I might otherwise ignore, so from what I’ve learned on this piece, I think my next work in this vein will show even more improvement.
